The high-profile Twisha Sharma death case in Bhopal has taken a significant turn as the main accused, her mother-in-law Giribala Singh, has approached the court seeking bail. A detailed bail application was filed on her behalf in the court of Bhopal's Principal District and Sessions Judge Manoj Kumar Srivastava. In an effort to facilitate a smooth hearing, the court initially transferred the sensitive petition to two different female judges. However, citing legal and administrative reasons, both female judges explicitly recused themselves from the proceedings, refusing to hear the matter. Alongside these developments, the court had issued strict instructions to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit the complete case diary. Complying with this directive, the federal probing agency has formally presented all the required documents before the bench.
Transfer to the CBI Special Court
Following the withdrawal of the two female judges from the proceedings, the legal process witnessed a brief procedural shift. The bail plea was subsequently transferred to the special CBI court for further hearings. However, the accused party could not secure any immediate legal relief as the proceedings hit another roadblock. The chief judge of the special CBI court happened to be on leave on the scheduled day of the hearing. Initially, there were strong speculations within the court premises that the duty judge might take up the urgent bail petition based on a special request from the defence, potentially leading to a major ruling. However, due to various technical and legal constraints, the hearing did not take place. The court has now fixed July 24 as the new date to hear the crucial bail application in detail.

The bail plea submitted by Giribala Singh's legal team outlines several key arguments to secure her release. The defence has primarily cited the accused's advancing age and rapidly deteriorating health conditions as the main grounds for seeking bail. Furthermore, the petition elaborately claims that there were never any disputes between the mother-in-law and the deceased daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma, asserting that they shared a very cordial and affectionate relationship. Relying on these arguments, the defence has strongly appealed to the court for immediate relief on humanitarian grounds. On the contrary, Twisha's family members have fiercely opposed the bail application in court. Her parents have categorically stated that the accused should not be granted any leniency given the extreme gravity of the allegations.
Suspicious Death and Autopsy Dispute
This complex legal and domestic dispute stems from the tragic events of May 12, 2026, when Twisha Sharma died under highly suspicious circumstances. Immediately after the incident, her in-laws described the death as a suicide and informed the police accordingly. However, the deceased's parents and relatives entirely rejected this claim, alleging that it was a premeditated murder. The controversy deepened significantly when the family raised serious doubts about the initial post-mortem conducted in Bhopal, refusing to accept its findings. Following mounting pressure and legal intervention, the court stepped in and ordered a second autopsy of Twisha's body. Acting on preliminary investigations, the police took strict action and arrested Twisha's husband, Samarth Singh, along with her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh.
Chief Minister's Intervention and Investigation
Considering the high-profile nature of the case and the family's persistent protests, Twisha's relatives sought a direct meeting with the state's Chief Minister. It was only after this crucial intervention that the entire investigation was transferred from the state police to the Central Bureau of Investigation. After the change in the probing agency and days of prolonged legal friction, the family finally performed Twisha's last rites. This case has remained in the constant spotlight for the public and law enforcement because the accused mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, is a legal expert and a retired judge herself, while her son Samarth is a highly renowned criminal lawyer in the city. Recently, as part of their ongoing probe, the CBI team recreated the entire crime scene at the accused's residence. Investigating officers used a life-sized dummy, hanging it to reconstruct the sequence of events and understand exactly how the death might have occurred. Both the accused currently remain lodged in jail under judicial custody until July 28 on the strict orders of the court.
