The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken strict action by sealing the canteen operating within the premises after a dead fly was found floating in a glass of buttermilk served to a customer. This alarming discovery inside the headquarters of the country's richest civic body has raised serious concerns about the hygiene standards maintained at government canteens.
FDA Conducts Extensive Five-Hour Inspection
Promptly responding to the distressing complaint, a specialized team of FDA officials arrived at the BMC headquarters to investigate the matter. The officials conducted a rigorous and thorough inspection of the canteen's kitchen, food storage areas, and overall sanitation practices that lasted for nearly five hours. Spearheaded by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, who is known for his strict administrative measures, the campaign aims to root out unhygienic food practices across the state. Prior to this, the FDA had taken similar punitive actions against several prominent eateries in the city, including shutting down the canteen at the well-known KEM Hospital for failing to meet health standards.

The FDA's zero-tolerance policy towards food safety violations extends beyond Mumbai. Recently, the administration executed a major crackdown in Pune as well. The FDA officials issued a strict notice to immediately shut down a spices and dry fruits shop in the city over alleged severe violations of food safety regulations. Notably, this particular business establishment belongs to the family of Siya Goyal, who is a key accused in the high-profile Ketan Agarwal murder case. These continuous and widespread enforcement actions make it abundantly clear that the authorities are cracking down heavily on any enterprise that gambles with consumer health.
