Suburban railway operations on Mumbai's Harbour Line experienced sudden disruptions during the peak morning commute, causing substantial inconvenience to daily travelers. Train movements between Chembur and Sewri sections came to a temporary halt after a piece of cloth became entangled in the overhead electric wiring. The unexpected obstruction affected both inbound and outbound local services, creating significant operational bottlenecks and forcing multiple commuter trains to wait in long queues across the track network.
Disruption Reported at 9:44 AM Near Sewri
The operational snag surfaced around 9:44 AM when railway staff noticed a cloth fragment suspended from the overhead equipment cable near platform number 2 at Sewri station. It appeared that an object had been discarded or tossed onto the overhead electric line, triggering immediate technical issues across the electrical infrastructure. Because the incident took place during the morning rush hour, trains heading toward Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus along the Harbour Line Up corridor backed up directly behind one another, stranding commuters aboard stationary coaches and on crowded platforms.
Maintenance Teams Clear Line by 10:13 AM
Upon detecting the blockage, railway maintenance personnel rushed directly to the location to safely remove the debris from the high-voltage overhead cables. The technical crews managed to clear the wire and eliminate the obstruction promptly. By 10:13 AM, normal track operations were restored and local train services resumed running across the corridor. Although direct train movements restarted quickly following the half-hour standstill, suburban services along the affected Harbour Line section continued to experience residual delays as schedules stabilized.
