A shocking incident of vehicle theft has surfaced from Jalgaon district in Maharashtra, where thieves managed to steal a brand new state transport bus directly from inside the Jamner ST depot. The daring heist took place late Monday night after unidentified culprits breached depot security and drove off with the newly delivered vehicle. However, their elaborate escape plan was unexpectedly cut short by a simple road hazard. A sharp nail punctured one of the bus tires mid-transit, forcing the panicking thieves to abandon the heavy vehicle near a nearby village before fleeing into the night.
CCTV Footage Captures the Audacious Theft
The theft came to light several hours after the incident when depot staff noticed that the newly arrived bus was missing from its assigned parking space. Realizing the severity of the situation, officials immediately reviewed the security camera footage installed across the depot premises. The CCTV recordings captured a lone individual sitting calmly in the driver seat, carefully reversing the bus from its parking bay, and maneuvering it out through the main exit gates as soon as an opportunity arose. Depot authorities promptly alerted the local police following the discovery.
A Punctured Tire Foils the Escape
Upon receiving the alert, police personnel arrived at the scene and launched an immediate search operation guided by clues from the security footage. Their investigation soon revealed that the thieves could not travel very far with the stolen bus. En route, a nail on the road pierced one of the main tires, causing a flat. Unable to operate the heavy vehicle with a ruined tire and lacking the means to repair it late at night, the culprits abandoned the bus near a nearby village and fled the scene. Law enforcement officials later tracked down the vehicle and secured it safely.
Depot Security System Under Scrutiny
The facility with which the thieves drove a massive state transport vehicle out of the premises has raised serious questions regarding security protocols at the Jamner ST depot. Concerns are mounting over how security personnel stationed at the location failed to spot the bus departing late at night. Furthermore, inquiries are being directed at why no formal exit entry was recorded at the gate checkpoint, which is mandatory for all arriving and departing buses. With local residents reporting a rise in theft incidents around the bus station area in recent days, the glaring lapse in surveillance has heightened administrative anxiety.
Ongoing Police Investigation and Motive Probe
Local police are currently analyzing CCTV feeds and gathering forensic evidence to identify the individuals involved in the theft. Authorities are investigating the primary motive behind taking a full-sized public transport bus, probing whether the intent was to dismantle the vehicle for spare parts, resell it illegally, or utilize it for another criminal act. Alongside tracking the suspects, investigators are scrutinizing internal security lapses to determine accountability for the failure in oversight at the depot.
