Another shocking incident of reckless driving has rattled the financial capital of India. A nine-year-old child lost his life after being struck by a speeding vehicle in the upscale Bandra West neighbourhood of Mumbai. The tragic collision has sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving grieving family members and angry residents demanding strict safety measures.
Fatal impact while crossing the road
According to details gathered from the authorities, the unfortunate mishap took place on Sunday afternoon between 2:15 PM and 2:30 PM right outside Jijamata Garden in Bandra West. The young victim, identified as nine-year-old Ansh Ravindra Gupta, was attempting to walk across the thoroughfare when a runaway car struck him with tremendous force. The impact threw the boy to the ground, and allegations indicate that the vehicle rolled directly over his body, causing severe and fatal trauma.
Distracted driving and hospital run
Initial police inquiries revealed that the automobile was being driven by a local fitness coach named Megha Rawal. Investigators state that she was allegedly talking on her mobile phone and driving at a dangerously high speed at the moment of the crash. This gross negligence proved fatal for the young child. Immediately following the impact, the grievously injured boy was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, where attending medical professionals pronounced him dead on arrival. The sudden loss has shattered the child's family, plunging them into unrelenting grief.
Swift police action and charges filed
Responding promptly to distress calls, local officers from the Bandra police station arrived at the scene to initiate a formal investigation. The authorities successfully apprehended the accused driver, Megha Rawal, and placed her under arrest. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 105, 281, and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Investigators are currently examining the precise speed of the vehicle, verifying the mobile phone usage allegations, and probing all surrounding circumstances of the tragic event.
