A violent factional showdown involving members of two separate militant factions within the Noney district of Manipur resulted in one fatality and left six other individuals wounded, according to local law enforcement authorities. The armed confrontation erupted during the early hours of Saturday, catching residents and security forces by surprise as opposing forces exchanged heavy gunfire.
Fierce Shootout Between Rival Factions
According to statements from a senior police official, the deadly exchange took place when armed cadres belonging to the Zeliangrong United Front-Kamson faction and the Zeliangrong United Front-Jenchui faction engaged in a direct gun battle. The intense exchange of bullets proved fatal for one participant, who was officially identified by authorities as 37-year-old Jangailing Gonmei.
Medical Treatment for the Injured
In the aftermath of the armed clash, a total of six people sustained injuries and required immediate medical attention. Out of these wounded individuals, five were swiftly transferred to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences located in Imphal for specialized care, where medical staff have reported their current health status to be stable.
Meanwhile, the sixth wounded person was admitted to a private healthcare facility within the state capital for ongoing treatment. Law enforcement officials stated that comprehensive investigations are currently underway to ascertain further details regarding the exact triggers and circumstances that led to the violent factional showdown.
