Three Arrested in Imphal for Extortion Including a Serving Manipur Rifles Havildar

Manipur Police arrested a serving Rifles Havildar and two associates in an anti-extortion drive, recovering a service weapon and ammunition in Imphal West district.

On September 17, 2026, security forces in Manipur took decisive action against an illegal extortion racket operating in the Singjamei Wangma locality. The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals, including an active-duty security official.

Targeted Raids Based on Intelligence

A joint team comprising the Manipur Police Anti-Extortion Unit and the Imphal West district commando unit carried out coordinated raids. Based on precise intelligence regarding extortion demands in the area, the law enforcement personnel targeted the residences of the suspects. A firearm, ammunition, and other weapons were seized during the course of the operations.

Identity of the Arrested Suspects

Among those apprehended is Waikhom Amarjit Singh, a 44-year-old Havildar currently serving with the 1st Manipur Rifles. During the search of his premises, security personnel recovered a 9 mm service pistol, a magazine, and four live rounds of ammunition from his possession.

The other two co-accused have been identified as 40-year-old Okram Priyokumar Singh (also known as Priyo) and 34-year-old Thongram Sunson Singh. Both of these suspects are residents of the Singjamei Waikhom Leikai neighborhood in the Imphal West district.

Case Registered and Under Investigation

Following their arrest, all three individuals and the seized weapons and ammunition were transferred to the custody of the local police station with jurisdiction over the area. A formal case has been registered against the suspects, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to uncover further details. The Manipur Police shared details of the operation on X.

Separate Search Yields Arms Cache

In an entirely separate law enforcement operation conducted on September 16, a security team consisting of Heirok Police Station staff and personnel from the 10th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) managed to recover a significant cache of hidden weapons. This search operation took place at Heirok Part-III Uyok Ching Mamang, located within the Thoubal district.

The security forces recovered one double-barrel breech-loading (DBBL) gun, a country-made rifle equipped with its magazine, and 20 live rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition during this separate raid.
