Security personnel deployed in Manipur's Bishnupur district have successfully secured the release of a West Bengal resident who was reportedly seized shortly after landing at Imphal airport. The traveler, identified as Md. Wasim Akram, took advantage of a critical moment during transit to escape his captors by engaging the emergency brake of the transport vehicle, allowing him to break free and alert nearby security forces.
A Daring Escape and Immediate Police Intervention
Officers from the Moirang Police Station carried out the rescue operation on September 19 in the Naranseina vicinity, situated approximately 40 km from the airport terminal in Imphal. Police detailed that while being driven away by the abductors, Akram managed to pull the vehicle's handbrake, abruptly halting movement. He promptly fled the scene on foot and approached stationed security personnel to request urgent protection and intervention.
Vehicle Driver in Custody as Investigation Continues
Following the incident, law enforcement authorities took the driver of the vehicle into custody. An official police statement confirmed that investigators are actively questioning the detained driver to trace the sequence of events and apprehend all remaining accomplices connected to the abduction plot. Key details, including the precise timing of the abduction, the motive behind targeting Akram, and potential links to any organized groups, have not yet been made public by the authorities.
