Heightened global market turmoil and ongoing US-Iran conflict triggered noticeable volatility across the Indian stock market over the past trading week. Under the influence of persistent international headwinds, five of the top ten most valuable companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) collectively lost nearly Rs 1 lakh crore in market capitalization. IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) bore the brunt of the downturn, emerging as the biggest wealth destroyer among the market heavyweights.
Weekly Losses Recorded by Benchmark Indices
Domestic benchmark indices remained under sustained selling pressure during the trading week ending Friday. The 30-share BSE Sensex index closed down by 489.92 points, marking a decline of 0.62 percent. Concurrently, the 50-share NSE Nifty index lost 204.65 points or 0.83 percent. Multiple sessions of consecutive market weakness directly eroded the valuations of major listed entities across energy, banking, and technology sectors.
