A divergence emerged across Indian precious metals trading on Tuesday, October 27, as festival season preparations gathered momentum. While future contracts on the Multi Commodity Exchange showed mild softness during early trading hours, retail jewellery counters registered price increases. The conflicting price trends arrive at a pivotal moment for Indian households, with Karwa Chauth only two days away and Dhanteras and Diwali rapidly approaching. Investors and shoppers are closely monitoring market swings as changing crude oil valuations, international geopolitical conditions, and expectations surrounding United States monetary policy continue to steer precious metals.
MCX Gold Futures Consolidate in Morning Trade
Trading activity on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India remained tightly bound within a narrow corridor during the morning session. The gold contract scheduled for delivery on December 4, 2026, changed hands at Rs 1,43,024 per 10 grams by 10:12 am IST, marking a retreat of Rs 49 or 0.03 percent from the prior finish of Rs 1,43,073.
Earlier in the morning, the contract commenced trading at Rs 1,42,581. Buying interest emerged from those opening lows, allowing valuations to recover much of the morning ground before settling marginally below the previous closing level. The minimal dip indicates that bullion is currently consolidating after previous softness rather than experiencing aggressive selling.
Silver Contracts Experience Steeper Pullback
Industrial metal silver encountered comparatively heavier selling pressure than bullion during Tuesday morning dealings. The benchmark December 4 silver futures contract on the MCX fell by Rs 1,493 or 0.76 percent to stand at Rs 1,94,300 per kilogram at 10:15 am IST, after ending the preceding session at Rs 1,95,793.
The contract had initiated business at Rs 1,93,789 per kilogram. While bargain hunters provided some downside cushion from the day's lowest marks, the contract remained entrenched in negative territory throughout early exchanges.
Domestic Retail Gold Prices Climb Across Purities
Contrasting with the subdued tone on the futures board, over-the-counter jewellery rates climbed across India on Tuesday, October 27. The price of 24 Karat fine gold increased by Rs 54 per gram, while 22 Karat and 18 Karat grades advanced by Rs 50 and Rs 51 per gram, respectively. Local retail silver prices remained flat during the same period.
Retail pricing across specific purity categories stood as follows on Tuesday
- 24 Karat Gold: Advanced by Rs 54 to reach Rs 14,329 per gram, translating to Rs 1,43,290 for a 10-gram bar.
- 22 Karat Gold: Gained Rs 50 to touch Rs 13,135 per gram, bringing the standard 10-gram price to Rs 1,31,350.
- 18 Karat Gold: Added Rs 51 to trade at Rs 10,757 per gram, establishing a 10-gram valuation of Rs 1,07,570.
International Cues and Monetary Outlook
Overseas bullion was quoted near $4,010 an ounce after having recently touched a more than three-month trough. Value-seeking buyers stepping in at discounted levels provided a price floor, but ongoing ambiguity surrounding US Federal Reserve rate deliberations kept upside momentum muted. In tandem, world silver prices steadied near $54 an ounce following multi-month lows, receiving modest backing from softer crude oil prices and cautious position adjustments ahead of the US central bank meeting.
Assessing the macroeconomic currents influencing bullion, VT Markets Principal Analyst Daniel Munday noted the shifting interest rate projections. Daniel Munday stated that the tone of the Fed's statement will matter more than the decision itself. He highlighted that gold had dropped beneath $4,000 to approach a three-month bottom of $3,975, adding that financial markets are pricing in roughly a three-in-four probability of a rate hike in December, an outcome that could keep precious metals under consistent pressure.
