Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma paid rich tributes on Tuesday to his father, former Lok Sabha Speaker and former Meghalaya Chief Minister Purno Agitok Sangma, on his 79th birth anniversary. The commemoration highlighted the late leader's enduring legacy of public service and his visionary approach toward the youth of the Northeast region.
Prayer Service and Memorial Gatherings in Tura
Conrad Sangma attended a solemn prayer meeting held at the Cathedral Church Cemetery in Tura, where family members, leaders, and citizens gathered to observe the birth anniversary of the late leader. The prayer ceremony was led by the Auxiliary Bishop of Tura, Most Rev. Jose Chirackal. Accompanying the Chief Minister during the solemn proceedings were Members of the Legislative Assembly Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma, Sanjay A. Sangma, and Ian Botham K. Sangma.

Addressing the assembled crowd, Conrad Sangma described P.A. Sangma as much more than a traditional political figure, emphasizing that he functioned as an institution whose foundational principles continue to shape generations. Later in the day, Conrad Sangma joined local citizens at the P.A. Sangma Sports Complex located in Dakopgre, Tura, to offer floral tributes at the statue of Purno A. Sangma. The observance also coincided with the 14th foundation day of the National People's Party, serving as a reminder of his ideals centered around unity in diversity, tribal pride, and national integration.
