Meghalaya Police dealt a notable blow to regional narcotics distribution channels by apprehending two individuals and confiscating 40.12 grams of high-grade heroin in Shillong. The interdiction occurred in the Pynthorumkhrah neighbourhood following precise tactical preparations by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). In the illicit drug market, the confiscated contraband is valued at roughly Rs 7 lakh.
Interstate Transit from Silchar Traced by Task Force
The enforcement measure originated from actionable intelligence confirming that a narcotics consignment was being moved across state lines from Silchar in Assam into Shillong for localized distribution. Acting rapidly on these specific movement alerts, ANTF operatives established surveillance positions across critical checkpoints in Pynthorumkhrah to trap the transport vehicle before the delivery could be concluded.
Soap Cases Concealing Contraband Uncovered in Vehicle
Officers intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number ML-05-AD-1301 during the operation. Two occupants were identified inside: Jamir Hussain Laskar, son of the late Makabul Ali Laskar and a resident of Pangram in Assam's Cachar district, alongside Joy Ryntathiang, son of the late D. Chyne, hailing from Umkdait, Nongmensong in Shillong. Following formal statutory inspection protocols, investigators searched the automobile and recovered four plastic soap boxes containing concealed powdered contraband.
NDPS Act Invoked as Broader Trafficking Web Under Lens
Subsequent field testing confirmed that the powdered substance inside the containers was indeed heroin, registering a net weight of 40.12 grams. The contraband was impounded, and both suspects were formally placed under arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Investigators are currently questioning the duo to unearth the initial suppliers in Assam, identify the local receivers in Meghalaya, and dismantle associated distribution cells.
