Music enthusiasts gear up as the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival prepares for its upcoming edition, shifting to a brand-new permanent venue. Organisers have officially unveiled the dates and the initial wave of international headliners for the festival, promising an unforgettable musical weekend in Meghalaya.
A Brand New Permanent Home
The 2026 edition of the festival is scheduled to run on November 20 and 21. For the first time, the event will take place at the newly designated New Shillong Highland Grounds. The Meghalaya government has specifically allocated this spacious venue to host large-scale concerts, festivals, and cultural gatherings.
The newly developed grounds feature multiple entry and exit points, robust parking facilities, and dedicated traffic management systems to handle heavy crowds seamlessly. Situated roughly 30 minutes away from Shillong, the venue offers improved connectivity and accessibility for visitors traveling from Assam, Jowai, and surrounding areas. State authorities are also formulating a comprehensive mobility plan to ensure smooth transit during the festival weekend.
Star-Studded International Lineup
The initial artist announcement brings major global stars to the region. American R&B and pop phenomenon Khalid is set to perform as one of the primary headliners. With seven Grammy nominations under his belt, Khalid remains a defining voice in modern pop and R&B, known globally for chart-topping anthems.
Joining him is acclaimed hip-hop artist Swae Lee, celebrated both for his work with Rae Sremmurd and his successful solo career. Swae Lee earned international acclaim for his major collaboration with Post Malone on the track featured in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Adding a distinct rock element to the lineup, the American pop-punk band Boys Like Girls will also perform live. Formed in 2005, the band achieved widespread fame during the 2000s with multiple hit anthems.
More Acts and Venue Preparations
Organisers confirmed that two additional international headliners will be revealed soon, bringing the total count of primary global acts to five. The timeline for this year's announcements experienced a slight delay due to the extensive logistical planning required for transitioning to the new venue. Handling technical specifications, artist logistics, and large-scale production requirements for international performers demanded careful coordination.
This follows a tremendously successful 2025 edition, which drew massive crowds with performances by international and domestic stars including Jason Derulo, The Script, Tyga, Diplo, Nora Fatehi and Aqua. The upcoming festival will mark one of the very first mega-events hosted at the new Highland Grounds.
