Meghalaya Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla has called on the public to secure health protection well before any medical emergency arises. Speaking at an official gathering, the minister advised residents to complete their registration under the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme alongside the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (MHIS-PMJAY) in advance, emphasizing that timely enrolment eliminates delays when hospital care is required.
Prioritising Early Enrolment and Mandatory Aadhaar Verification
The health minister addressed attendees during an awareness and interactive session organised by the District Medical and Health Officer of West Jaintia Hills. The event took place at Mihmyntdu Lumpyrdi Community Hall in Mihmyntdu. Addressing the community, the minister explained that completing the necessary documentation proactively prevents administrative hassles during urgent medical interventions, advising families not to wait until someone falls ill.
Accurate verification remains central to the delivery of these healthcare benefits. The minister stressed the necessity of linking Aadhaar details with the insurance scheme records, urging beneficiaries to verify that their information is accurately updated. Community members were also requested to spread awareness across their neighbourhoods so that eligible families can readily access the cashless treatment covered by the joint health scheme.
Beneficiary Interaction and Ground-Level Healthcare Insights
During the session, the minister engaged in direct dialogue with local beneficiaries, answering their questions alongside Health Department officials who provided technical clarifications. Chief Executive Officer of MHIS-PMJAY B. Warjri outlined the primary provisions, operational features, and coverage benefits accessible to policyholders across the state.
The event also featured first-hand accounts from individuals who had accessed medical care under the scheme, complemented by an audio-visual presentation produced by the State Nodal Agency. A documentary focusing on Jarain Primary Health Centre was screened during the gathering, accompanied by insights from its Medical Officer-in-Charge, Dr F. Lamin, who discussed the practical delivery of patient services under the initiative. Several regional dignitaries attended the programme, including West Jaintia Hills DMHO Dr P. Shylla, East Jaintia Hills DMHO Dr M. Syngkon, Jowai Assistant Commissioner LBR Marak, as well as state and district healthcare personnel.
