A major step toward modernizing education in Meghalaya has been taken with the official launch of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Transformative Labs in 27 government schools across the Ri-Bhoi district. Funded through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of NTPC Limited, this project aims to bridge the digital and scientific gap for rural students, ensuring they gain access to high-quality tech-based learning.
Official Launch Event in Umroi
The central inauguration ceremony was hosted at the Umden Umroi RMSA Secondary School, where the newly established facility was officially opened by Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare. The event was marked by the presence of several administrative leaders, including Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Saini, who emphasized the importance of bringing advanced academic infrastructure to government schools located in remote areas.
Project Funding and Collaborative Efforts
A total budget of Rs 148.50 lakh has been utilized to implement this progressive educational initiative across the district. The launch ceremony was attended by NTPC Limited Bongaigaon DGM (HR and Corporate Communication) Madhuria Singha Lakhar, alongside District School Education Officer R. Shadap. Members of the school faculty, local students, and administrative staff were also present to witness the milestone development.
Fostering Curiosity and Hands-On Science
The newly established classrooms are designed to move beyond passive textbook learning by providing students with hands-on learning resources in core STEM fields. By offering direct access to scientific instruments and emerging technical models, the initiative aims to make learning more engaging. This experiential methodology is expected to foster deep curiosity and creativity, encouraging children from rural backgrounds to pursue higher education and careers in modern science and research.
