Legal dispute resolution received a major boost across Meghalaya as a state-wide National Lok Adalat successfully settled 500 cases in a single day on Saturday. The special judicial drive facilitated mutual agreements among litigants, leading to settlements totaling Rs 2.97 crore across various judicial forums in the state.
Comprehensive Breakdown of Resolved Disputes
During the day-long exercise, judicial benches across the state took up a total of 834 legal matters for consideration. The proceedings effectively balanced both early-stage conflicts and ongoing courtroom battles. Out of the total workload, 564 pre-litigation matters were brought before the benches to reach an amicable agreement before formal court charges were instituted, whereas 270 matters were already pending cases undergoing active trial across various courts.
Judicial Supervision and Institutional Framework
The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority organized this comprehensive event under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority. Proceedings took place across all district courts in the state as well as at the High Court of Meghalaya. The entire initiative was held under the overall patronage of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere, who functions as the Patron-in-Chief of MSLSA. Practical oversight and supervision of the sessions were handled by MSLSA Executive Chairman Justice HS Thangkhiew alongside Justice W. Diengdoh, who serves as Chairperson of the High Court Legal Services Committee.
