Meghalaya's vibrant sporting culture and substantial youth population provide an ideal foundation for athletic excellence as the state gears up to stage the 39th National Games in March 2027, Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra stated on Friday. Speaking to media representatives in Shillong, Bindra shared his perspective immediately after launching the state's inaugural High-Performance Sports Science Centre.
A Catalyst for the Regional Sports Ecosystem
Characterizing the upcoming multi-sport competition as a major milestone, Bindra noted that organizing the National Games will direct widespread national attention toward the state's evolving athletic network. He conveyed clear enthusiasm about the March 2027 showcase, calling it an extraordinary platform to highlight regional athletic talent and administrative capability before the entire country.
Support for the Vision of a Sports Hub
Bindra warmly endorsed the strategic goal championed by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to transform Meghalaya into an elite sporting destination and a premier hub for athletes across India. Backing this ambitious vision, Bindra pledged that his professional team would provide comprehensive assistance to help turn these plans into reality.
Scientific Preparation and Modern Infrastructure
The state is actively scaling up its sports facilities while pouring resources into scientifically backed training regimens and long-term athlete development programs ahead of the marquee competition. Underlining youth as Meghalaya's premier strength, Bindra observed that physical activity is already an integral part of everyday local culture, ensuring that structured modern training will yield lasting benefits.
