Security forces in Meghalaya are on high alert following a string of coordinated petrol bomb strikes and arson attacks overnight across Shillong, West Khasi Hills, and West Jaintia Hills. Targets included government offices, police infrastructure, state vehicles, and a ruling party facility.

An escalation of targeted overnight violence has shaken multiple districts across Meghalaya, as unidentified perpetrators launched coordinated petrol bomb strikes and set fire to public infrastructure, administrative vehicles, and political premises across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.

Violent Incidents Reported Across Shillong

In the state capital of Shillong, attackers targeted high-profile facilities during the early hours of Friday. Around 5:00 AM, a petrol bomb was hurled at the National People’s Party (NPP) office situated in the Lachumiere locality. While the building did not suffer severe structural harm and no injuries were sustained, security officers swiftly stepped in to fortify the area. Hours prior, at approximately 1:30 AM, miscreants threw a petrol bomb at the Madanrting police station, though no destruction was documented in that strike. However, property damage did occur in Malki Nongshilliang, where a parked motorcycle was set on fire and completely ruined.

These coordinated petrol bomb attacks on government assets and the ruling party office in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills serve as a severe warning for the region's security architecture. The systematic targeting of police stations and administrative vehicles points towards escalating civil unrest and deficiencies in local intelligence coordination. Without swift and decisive countermeasures from the state administration and law enforcement, this organized sabotage risks spreading further, potentially threatening regional stability.
