Authorities in Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills district have intervened in the ongoing recruitment process for staff nurse positions at MCH Hospital in Nongstoin following allegations of irregularities. To maintain absolute fairness and inspect every claim raised regarding the hiring, the local administration has initiated a formal inquiry. Crucially, the authorities have placed a complete hold on releasing any final selection list or examination results until the committee concludes its inquiry and resolves all pending questions.
Constitution of Formal Inquiry Panel
Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, Hema Nayak, addressed the issue through a formal letter dated September 30, underscoring that the administration views the allegations with utmost seriousness. Emphasising that integrity, transparency and meritocracy remain paramount in all recruitment matters, Nayak announced the constitution of a Formal Inquiry Committee designed to uncover facts and guarantee an unbiased procedure.
The two-member panel consists of prominent senior officers stationed in Nongstoin. The members include West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police H. Kharkongor (MPS) and Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner E. Lyngdoh (MCS). This inquiry team is tasked with assessing the records and steps taken during the selection process.
Objections Raised by VPP Youth Wing
The administrative scrutiny was triggered by a formal representation submitted on September 28 by the State Youth Wing of the Voice of the People Party (VPP). The youth delegation brought forward concerns regarding the conduct of the nurse hiring drive at the healthcare facility, prompting district officials to take prompt cognisance of the situation.
Caution Issued Against Middlemen and Extortion
Alongside launching the investigation, the district administration released a public advisory warning candidates and families against fraudulent operators. Job seekers have been strictly cautioned not to entertain middlemen, touts, or individuals claiming they hold the power to influence recruitment outcomes. The administration reiterated that any form of corruption or extortion will meet with stringent legal punishment.
Aspirants who encounter unlawful solicitations or demands for money have been urged to report such incidents directly to the district administration or inquiry committee members during standard office hours. Deputy Commissioner Nayak indicated that necessary action as per law will follow immediately once the committee submits its final findings.
