In an initiative aimed at strengthening grassroots enterprise and expanding economic opportunities across Meghalaya, the Reserve Bank of India’s Shillong office organized a focused Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) townhall meeting on Tuesday in Mawkyrwat. The gathering served as an informational platform designed to orient local entrepreneurs regarding accessible institutional funding, official credit avenues, and broader governmental mechanisms structured to facilitate business launches and scale up existing ventures.
Administrative Collaboration at the District Level
The outreach session convened at the Multipurpose Hall situated within the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises in South West Khasi Hills district. Delivering the inaugural address as chief guest, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Aitinolin L. Mawlong highlighted the administrative commitment to facilitating self-reliance and entrepreneurship in the region. Setting the tone for the proceedings, Olden Nongpluh, General Manager (Officer-in-Charge) at RBI Shillong, delivered the keynote address detailing the Reserve Bank's focus on bolstering credit flows toward small business ecosystems.
Institutional Guidance Across Banking and Government Bodies
Representatives from multiple state and central financial bodies offered in-depth walkthroughs of sector-specific schemes. RBI Shillong was represented by Jubanlak Khongwir, while Eden Grace Rajee participated on behalf of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). Additionally, Vikas Verma of the MSME Development and Facilitation Office (MSME-DFO) presented an overview of key industrial initiatives, incubation facilities, and technical assistance programs available to aspiring business owners.
District-level implementation strategies were addressed by M. War, General Manager of the District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC), South West Khasi Hills. Technical and sector-specific opportunities were further detailed by Dr. A.N. Marak from the District Animal Husbandry and Dispensary Veterinary office, alongside institutional credit insights shared by Rana A. Lyngdoh of Meghalaya Rural Bank (MRB), Shillong, and Manish Madhukar, Assistant General Manager (SME) at State Bank of India (SBI), Shillong.

Bridging administrative guidance with real-world enterprise, the gathering featured firsthand accounts from local entrepreneurs Anticy Iawphniaw, Kitarland Lyngdoh, and June Robert Lyngkhoi. The three founders recounted their commercial journeys, operational hurdles, and operational successes directly to attendees. A dedicated interactive segment followed, offering active entrepreneurs and aspiring founders a forum to pose questions, raise challenges regarding bank loans, and share direct feedback regarding institutional support systems. The session formally concluded with an official vote of thanks proposed by Bongoni Rakesh, Manager at RBI Shillong.
