Residents of Lumparing in Shillong now have enhanced access to localized medical care following the inauguration of a new healthcare facility in the area. A 10-bedded Urban Primary Health Centre was officially opened on Sunday to serve the neighborhood and surrounding communities.
Funding and Construction Details
The health facility was constructed with an estimated financial outlay of Rs 4.13 crore. The project was funded through the Special Plan Assistance Scheme for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The building stands on approximately 6,000 square feet of land, which was generously provided by the Lumparing Social & Cultural Club.
Inauguration Ceremony and Dignitaries
Meghalaya Minister Sanbor Shullai formally inaugurated the healthcare center. The opening event was attended by senior health department officials, traditional local leaders, community members, and students. Key attendees included Dr N.E. Kharsahnoh, Director of Health Services (MI), and Dr A.J. Kharduit, District Medical and Health Officer, alongside other state and district health personnel and staff.
Targeting Vulnerable Populations
The newly established center is designed to cater directly to the medical requirements of Lumparing inhabitants and nearby residents, particularly those who previously encountered difficulties in reaching distant hospitals for basic treatment. During the inauguration, Minister Sanbor Shullai emphasized the critical need for accessible and qualitative medical care in the region, pointing out that a substantial portion of the local populace belongs to economically weaker sections.
Community Support and Land Contributions
The success of the project relied heavily on community collaboration. The minister acknowledged the vital contribution of the Lumparing Social & Cultural Club in donating the land. He also expressed gratitude for the backing extended by the Rangbah Shnongs representing Lower Lumparing, Upper Lumparing, and Kynjat-Phutbol Riat Laban.
Improving Primary Care Delivery
The launch of this facility is anticipated to significantly reinforce primary healthcare delivery throughout Lumparing. By bringing medical services closer to home, the center will minimize the necessity for local residents to travel longer distances just to receive routine basic medical attention.
