Shares of Billionbrains Garage Ventures, the parent entity operating the digital investment platform Groww, experienced upward momentum on Thursday, October 15, on the back of solid financial figures for the second quarter. The stock commenced trading at Rs 192.60 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and advanced to an early peak of Rs 194.99. By 9:40 am, shares were exchanging hands at Rs 194.73. Market interest gathered pace following the disclosure of the company's financial report for the September quarter of FY27, which demonstrated a 54% increase in quarterly net profit and accelerated operating revenue, even as headwinds across equity derivatives trading remained an area of focus.
Sharp Annual Expansion in Net Earnings and Revenue
In its financial statement for the September quarter of FY27, Billionbrains Garage Ventures posted net profit attributable to owners of Rs 725.60 crore. This marked an increase of 54% against the Rs 471 crore generated during the identical three-month span of the prior financial year, underscoring strong year-on-year financial progression.
Operational revenue registered robust top-line momentum, climbing 47% to reach Rs 1,501 crore from Rs 1,019 crore recorded twelve months earlier. The substantial growth in core business income, combined with measured operational expenditure, enabled net earnings expansion to outstrip the pace of overall revenue gains.
Controlled Expenses Drive Operating Margins Higher
A central feature of the company's quarterly performance was the disciplined management of costs relative to income growth. Consolidated operational expenditure increased by 29% year-on-year, staying comfortably below the 47% rise registered in operating revenue. This operational efficiency provided strong operating leverage to underlying profitability as the business enlarged its scale.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) reached Rs 968 crore, advancing 1% compared with the preceding quarter. The EBITDA margin expanded by 60 basis points to 64.5%, up from 63.9% in the June quarter. Simultaneously, the profit after tax (PAT) margin improved by approximately three percentage points over the prior year, touching 47%. These indicators reflect the platform's operational capability to sustain elevated margins while expanding its user ecosystem.
Sequential Trajectory Shows Stabilisation
In contrast to the buoyant annual comparisons, the quarter-on-quarter picture presented a more restrained dynamic. Net profit slipped approximately 1% relative to the June quarter, indicating that overall earnings trajectory has largely plateaued after previous periods of rapid acceleration.
Market participants also tracked potential pressure in the equity derivatives segment. A fundamental consideration for market analysts remains whether the company can maintain these operating margins amidst changing market dynamics and trading volume variations across specific trading segments.
Customer Additions Cross 11 Lakh Alongside Strong IPO Footprint
Platform user metrics displayed steady expansion during the period. Groww onboarded 11 lakh new transacting users throughout the September quarter, supported significantly by broader retail participation in primary market offerings. Around 42 lakh users utilized the platform to apply for equity initial public offerings (IPOs) during the three-month interval.
The company captured a 22% share of total IPO allotments nationwide, solidifying its systemic footprint across India's primary-market landscape. While high participation in public offerings serves as an effective acquisition engine for new accounts, long-term commercial value will depend on whether these freshly onboarded retail participants remain active and continue transacting after the conclusion of listing cycles.
