The parents of Ankita Bhandari, the 19-year-old receptionist at a resort near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand who was murdered in September 2022, have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the government. They are seeking the immediate rollback of BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam appointment as the Governor of Sikkim. Stating that their fight for justice remains uncompromising, the family warned that failure to withdraw the appointment would prompt nationwide demonstrations.
Pledge of Hunger Strike Following India Gate Agitation
Speaking after an overnight protest held at India Gate in New Delhi, the family reiterated their unyielding stance against the constitutional appointment. Ankita mother declared that they would remain resolute until the official order naming Gautam is revoked. She emphasized that if authorities refuse them permission to hold a peaceful sit-in at designated protest venues, they will shift their demonstration indoors and stage an indefinite hunger strike inside their own residence.
Demands for Immediate Rollback and Public Mobilisation
Delivering a strict 24-hour deadline to the administration, Ankita father warned that inaction would lead to severe widespread backlash. He insisted that the government must cancel the appointment of Dushyant Kumar as the Governor of Sikkim without delay. He cautioned that if the decision is not rescinded within the stipulated period, citizens across the country will pour onto the streets in protest, and the entire accountability for any resulting unrest will rest solely with the authorities.
