Following a prolonged period of selling pressure, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has caught the attention of market analysts tracking public sector rail enterprises. Broking firm Choice Institutional Equities has projected a strong recovery in the counter, which has declined nearly 36 percent over the past year. According to the brokerage, the stock holds the potential to gain up to 20 percent from its present trading levels, prompting a recommendation for investors to consider accumulating shares.
Recent Price Trajectory and Performance Metrics
IRCTC shares have experienced subdued momentum across recent trading sessions, concluding Monday's trade at 471 rupees. Examining performance over multiple time horizons shows the stock declined 2 percent over the last month and slipped 8 percent across a six-month window. In the calendar year 2026, the stock has witnessed a 31 percent drop, bringing its cumulative decline over the past twelve months to approximately 36 percent.
Brokerage Target Price and Company Valuation
Choice Institutional Equities has assigned a 'BUY' rating to the rail counter, establishing a target price of 560 rupees per share. This projected figure represents an upside of approximately 20% compared to recent prices. Trading on the BSE with a market capitalization of around 37,700 crore rupees, the company previously recorded a 52-week high of 736.80 rupees. Consequently, analysts view the prevailing valuations as attractive following the sustained price correction from peak levels.
Business Transformation and Super App Expansion
The primary driver behind the constructive assessment is the company's structured business transformation. Currently, approximately 89% of all reserved railway tickets are booked through online channels. This high penetration implies that the pace of acquiring entirely new users in core ticketing is reaching natural saturation limits. To address this dynamic, the organisation is focusing on expanding its Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) across its existing digital audience. IRCTC is creating an integrated super app that combines railway bookings with flight, bus, hotel, catering, and comprehensive holiday tour packages on a single interface. This cross-selling structure is anticipated to accelerate non-ticketing revenues manifold.
Modernisation Drive and Vande Bharat Network Growth
Ongoing rail modernisation efforts are providing substantial operational leverage to IRCTC's balance sheet. Within the overall reserved ticketing segment, the share of premium AC bookings has expanded beyond the 51% threshold. Additionally, roughly 164 Vande Bharat trains are currently operational across the nationwide railway grid. As outlined in the brokerage assessment, the fleet of these modern trains is projected to climb to around 800 by 2030 and touch 4,500 by the year 2047. Such structural network growth is expected to elevate high-margin ticketing operations while creating major volume gains in on-board catering and premium packaging services.
