Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the two-day Tech X Gaming Expo in Kohima on Friday, pointing out that modern technology can help the state overcome its geographic isolation while connecting young people to national and international career tracks right from their state. Addressing attendees, Rio emphasized that digital tools, innovation, and technical skills are vital to shaping the future of Nagaland's youth and contributing to the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Opening E-Sports and Gaming as Professional Pathways
Highlighting the expanding scope of digital entertainment, the Chief Minister remarked that gaming and e-sports should no longer be viewed merely as leisure activities, but as viable professional careers. He drew attention to specialized roles in game development, race engineering, data analytics, digital content creation, and live streaming. A centerpiece of the Kohima expo is the Kohima Time Trials for the F1 Sim Racing India Open 2026. Rio observed that this marks the initial time the national talent search initiative has entered Northeast India, presenting a historic opportunity for local talent across the region.
Expanding Digital Infrastructure and Startup Support
The state government is actively deploying resources to enhance Nagaland's digital ecosystem across multiple technology domains. Ongoing initiatives encompass work in geographic information systems (GIS), drone technology, information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and startup incubation. Key structural pillars include the operational Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facility in Kohima, alongside the proposed Nagaland Innovation Hub for Startups coming up in Chumoukedima and a planned AI Centre of Excellence.
Proposed Rs 100 Million Google Collaboration
Chief Minister Rio also spotlighted an upcoming partnership with Google involving an investment exceeding Rs 100 million in school education. He described this project as a transformative initiative to improve learning outcomes and teach 21st-century technological skills to students. Furthermore, Rio commented on the evolving role of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), noting that modern official communication extends beyond basic press releases to showcase Nagaland's culture, music, sports, entrepreneurship, and creative young talent on global digital platforms.
Inter-Departmental Coordination and Event Features
The Tech X Gaming Expo represents a collaborative effort organized jointly by DIPR alongside the Department of School Education, the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, the Department of Information Technology and Communication, and the GIS division under Planning and Coordination. Rio commended this cross-departmental approach to prepare youth for modern industry requirements. Reiterating his encouragement, he urged students to build careers in coding, artificial intelligence, robotics, design, and entrepreneurship. "Nagaland is no longer merely a spectator in the digital transformation," Rio stated during the inauguration. The event includes competitive e-sports tournaments, cosplay, digital art, AI creativity challenges, a 48-hour Game Jam, technical workshops, industry panel discussions, hands-on exhibits, live entertainment, and vendor stalls.
