Nagaland is all set to host the Northeast Regional National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 Conclave for the very first time, bringing together representatives from all eight northeastern states to deliberate extensively on the policy's implementation, hurdles, and prospects in the region. The two-day conclave begins on Friday at JP Park in Naga United Village, located within the Chumoukedima district. Addressing a press conference on Thursday to announce the mega event, Nagaland Higher and Technical Education Minister Temjen Imna Along stated that the conclave aims to forge a robust regional team capable of working collectively toward the smooth execution of the educational reforms. Along emphasised that stakeholders will be actively encouraged to formulate a practical blueprint that remains flexible, actionable, and result-oriented to effectively counter the educational obstacles specific to the region. He pointed out that northeastern states encounter several mutual difficulties while rolling out NEP 2020, noting that the gathering will seek to consolidate their joint efforts to overcome these barriers.
Action Plans and Financial Support for Higher Education
Discussions during the two-day deliberations are expected to home in on formulating a clear task list and action plan, alongside building a broad consensus among stakeholders regarding necessary measures to enhance institutional execution. According to Along, strategic plans will also be drawn up to mentor participating institutions and boost their administrative capabilities through targeted interventions and capacity-building measures. The minister strongly underlined that implementing NEP 2020, particularly across higher education tiers, demands a substantial injection of funding. He stressed that avenues must be explored to bolster financial backing without imposing any undue economic pressure on students.
Infrastructure Expansion and Statewide Confirmations
Focusing on local imperatives for Nagaland, Along underscored the pressing need to invest in expanding higher education capacity through the creation of new colleges and universities, alongside upgrading infrastructure at pre-existing institutions. Higher and Technical Education Secretary Sarita Yadav confirmed that governments representing all eight northeastern states have officially verified their attendance for the conclave. Much like the collaborative frameworks seen in recent regional pacts involving the SELCO Foundation and NSRLM, this educational summit aims to cement cooperative growth across the region.
