A group of 20 school students and two accompanying teachers from Nagaland have commenced a 10-day educational expedition titled the Seema Darshan Tour. Organised by the Spear Corps of the Assam Rifles as part of the Army's Operation Sadbhavna, the initiative is designed to offer youths from remote areas meaningful exposure to the nation's diverse heritage, frontier defense realities, and the working life of security personnel. The participants belong to Government Higher Secondary School, Rusoma, located in Kohima district, and are scheduled to complete their journey on September 28.
Exploring Strategic Frontier Hubs and Defense Infrastructure
The itinerary guides the cohort through key locations across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, including Guwahati, Tenga, Tawang, and Tezpur. In Arunachal Pradesh, both Tenga and Tawang stand as strategically vital points along the northern border, celebrated for their scenic heritage as well as their military significance. Further along the route in Assam, Tezpur hosts the headquarters of the Indian Army's IV Corps, widely known as the Gajraj Corps. The town also accommodates a key Indian Air Force fighter base responsible for operating frontline combat aircraft, notably the Su-30 MKI.
Direct Engagements with Military Leadership and Communities
Beyond sightseeing, the tour incorporates planned interactions with senior military commanders and community figures at various stops. The Spear Corps noted in a post on X that the initiative gives participants first-hand insights into regional cultures and the critical duty performed by armed forces in securing the borderlands. Defense officials emphasised that such structured youth engagements are essential tools for cultivating national integration and opening broader horizons for students growing up in remote rural belts.
Sustained Outreach Initiatives Across Nagaland
This expedition marks the second major educational tour coordinated for students from Nagaland within the current calendar year. In March, an earlier contingent of 20 students and three educators from Bhandari in Wokha district travelled to Guwahati and Kolkata, where they visited leading academic campuses and historical landmarks. Similarly, in the previous year, students and faculty from PM Shri Government High School in Yangphi, Kiphire district, undertook a study trip covering Delhi and Agra, featuring excursions to the Red Fort and Taj Mahal, alongside a ceremonial tribute at the National War Memorial.
Broadening Horizons Beyond the Home State
Through the sustained framework of Operation Sadbhavna, the armed forces consistently provide opportunities for young learners in frontier states to step beyond their local borders. By observing defense installations, interacting directly with military professionals, and navigating dynamic urban and historical environments, participating students gain a comprehensive appreciation of India's cultural tapestry, strategic geography, and collective national progress.
