The Nagaland state government officially unveiled the Nagaland LabourChowk mobile application on Wednesday, marking a major step toward digitizing employment services and simplifying access to welfare initiatives for building and other construction workers. Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen launched the newly developed digital platform during a formal ceremony held at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall in Kohima.
Modernizing Traditional Employment Ecosystems
Developed by the Department of Labour in coordination with the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, the LabourChowk initiative aims to bridge the gap between skilled workers and prospective employers. By introducing a technology-driven framework, the initiative seeks to modernize the age-old traditional labour chowk system into a more organized, efficient, and dignified digital marketplace. Workers who previously relied on physical locations to find daily wage work can now access job opportunities remotely through transparent digital channels.
Registration Channels for Workers and Employers
The mobile application has been made accessible to the public on the Google Play Store, where construction workers can complete their registration process. Once registered, workers gain access to job openings, state-sponsored welfare coverage, and structured skill development programs designed to enhance their employability. Simultaneously, employers seeking construction labor can visit the designated web portal at labourchowk.nagaland.gov.in. Through this portal, employers can create accounts, submit hiring requirements, and connect directly with verified construction workers across Nagaland.
Promoting Governance and Direct Welfare Delivery
Beyond job matching, the digital LabourChowk platform serves as a centralized hub for governance within the state's construction sector. It streamlines registration procedures, facilitates worker engagement, and ensures that financial and social security benefits reach eligible workers without administrative hurdles.
