However, the wheel of time turned in such a way that those who sought to destroy Somnath have been erased from history, leaving no trace of their existence today. In stark contrast, the magnificent Somnath Temple still stands proudly on the shores of the vast ocean in all its grandeur. The sacred site continues to bless the nation with the spirit of immortality and unbreakable resolve. To honor this extraordinary history and resilience, the Somnath Swabhiman Parv was celebrated with great fervor this year.
The Resilience and Restoration of Modhera Sun Temple
In his address, PM Modi connected another crucial historical event from the same era. He pointed out that in the very same year when Somnath was destroyed, 1026, the famous Sun Temple in Modhera, Gujarat, also fell victim to the wrath of the invaders. This means the destruction of the Modhera Sun Temple has also completed exactly 1,000 years. Historically, this architectural marvel was brand new when the tragedy struck. It was constructed just a year prior, in 1025, by King Bhimdev I. Although the king had built the temple with exquisite craftsmanship and intricate architectural details, it was desecrated within just one year of its completion.

PM Modi noted that the destruction of major spiritual epicenters like Somnath, along with parallel attacks in other parts of the country, could have easily crushed the morale of any society or ruling dynasty. Instead of surrendering to the circumstances, he bravely confronted Mahmud Ghazni's forces.
