Known widely as the city of Nath temples, Bareilly is preparing for a unique fusion of religious heritage and modern urban development along its primary entry corridors. The Bareilly Development Authority has announced plans to construct two magnificent entry gates on Nainital Road and Pilibhit Road. The structure coming up on Nainital Road will be named Somnath Gate, while the one on Pilibhit Road will be designated as Vishwanath Gate, adding distinct architectural landmarks to the city.
Designing on the lines of the Nath Corridor
In alignment with the vision of the Chief Minister, both proposed gateways will be developed along the theme of the Nath Corridor. Their architectural design will draw deep inspiration from the religious and spiritual traditions associated with Lord Shiva. The grand stone architecture will prominently feature statues of Lord Shiva, tridents, and other traditional spiritual symbols. This seamless integration of modern engineering with traditional Indian architectural styles is expected to give Bareilly a refreshing and unique visual identity.
Architectural inspiration from sacred shrines
The Somnath Gate on Nainital Road will mirror the architectural and spiritual legacy of the revered Somnath Jyotirlinga, whereas the Vishwanath Gate on Pilibhit Road will reflect the timeless Sanatan traditions of Kashi Vishwanath. To enhance their aesthetic appeal after dark, both entryways will feature specialized facade lighting that highlights their grandeur during the night. These additions are designed to elevate the overall travel experience for commuters entering the city.
Bridging cultural heritage and urban growth
According to the Bareilly Development Authority, the primary objective behind these gates extends far beyond mere boundary markers; they aim to showcase Bareilly historical, cultural, and spiritual identity through architecture. Alongside construction, significant emphasis is being placed on route beautification, advanced landscaping, and improving the overall urban landscape. These new structures will expand upon the existing network of architectural landmarks developed under the Nath Corridor initiative in the region. Bareilly Development Authority Vice Chairperson Saumya Pandey noted that the authority is actively working to unite the city rich religious legacy with contemporary urban development in accordance with the Chief Minister directives, with these two gates serving as a major step forward.
