In an effort to provide relief from persistent traffic congestion in the capital, the Jaipur Development Authority has accelerated its planning to build underpasses at three major intersections. The initiative targets heavily congested routes to reduce long lines of vehicles and make daily commutes smoother for the public. These construction projects are expected to see increased momentum over the next three months.
Due to the mounting vehicular pressure in Jaipur, major intersections experience severe traffic jams during morning and evening hours. Frequent halts at signals waste commuters' time and energy. To tackle this, the administration is revamping traffic infrastructure at Ajmer Road, Gopalpura Pulia, and Rajmahal Circle to ensure seamless movement.
Construction Begins Near Purani Chungi on Ajmer Road
Construction work for an underpass has officially commenced near Purani Chungi on Ajmer Road. This project is expected to relieve main-road traffic from the heavy pressure of signals and intersections. Once completed, motorists will have the option to bypass frequent stops, significantly reducing traffic pressure along Ajmer Road and its adjoining busy corridors.
Underpass Planned for Gopalpura Pulia Area
Preparations are underway to construct an underpass in the Gopalpura Pulia area to ease traffic congestion. The proposed layout emphasizes smoother transit around B-2 Bypass and adjacent busy routes. This project is estimated to cost around 42 crore rupees, providing daily relief to commuters traveling through Gopalpura Pulia and nearby localities.
Rajmahal Circle Set for Traffic Relief
An underpass has also been proposed at Rajmahal Circle to curb traffic jams and streamline vehicle movement. Authorities are crafting a blueprint where the proposed underpass will span approximately 330 meters in length. The estimated expenditure for this project is around 47 crore rupees, though final confirmation regarding the exact timeline and final design is still awaited.
Crucial Focus Needed on Entry and Exit Points
While underpasses will help reduce traffic jams, the planning of their entry and exit points remains vital. If vehicles form queues at these exact points, pressure on surrounding intersections could escalate. Therefore, engineers must account for road width, vehicle volume, and junction capacity during construction. Once finished, these projects are expected to transform Jaipur's traffic management and save commuters considerable time.
