A shocking and inhumane incident has emerged from the Bundi district of Rajasthan, leaving the local community in a state of terror. Late at night, in the Mohanpura village under the Sadar police station area, a group of 6 to 7 armed individuals broke into a residence and launched a brutal attack on 70-year-old Narayani Bai. The criminals, wielding sharp weapons, targeted the elderly woman and severed her foot in a calculated attempt to steal the silver anklets she was wearing.
The Attack and Theft
During the assault, when the elderly woman's daughter-in-law rushed to intervene, the attackers physically assaulted her as well, leaving both women severely injured. Beyond the barbaric act of removing the silver jewelry from the victim's foot, the gang also looted approximately one lakh rupees in cash that was kept inside the house. The incident occurred while the rest of the family members were asleep, allowing the armed intruders to execute their plan with relative ease. Both the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law have been admitted to the district hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving the report of the crime, the Sadar police station team arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The incident has cast a pall of fear over the village of Mohanpura and its surrounding areas. In response, law enforcement has established roadblocks throughout the vicinity and launched an extensive search operation to apprehend the perpetrators. A forensic science laboratory team has been deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene. Simultaneously, police officials are conducting detailed inquiries with the family members and local villagers in an effort to identify the suspects and understand their movements.
A Growing Pattern of Brutality
This incident is particularly alarming as it represents the fourth instance of such crimes against elderly women in Rajasthan, suggesting a disturbing pattern of behavior. Similar acts of violence have previously been reported in Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur. In the Jahira village of the Bamanwas tehsil in Sawai Madhopur, 50-year-old Urmila Meena was murdered by criminals who intended to steal her silver anklets. The attackers slit her throat and severed both her legs to remove the jewelry. In a display of extreme cruelty, the perpetrators discarded the severed limbs into a water tank after extracting the ornaments, which weighed approximately two kilograms.
Links to Previous Cases
A similarly horrific incident took place in the capital city of Jaipur, within the Galta Gate police station jurisdiction. There, 108-year-old Jamuna Devi was murdered when criminals severed both her legs to loot her silver anklets. Investigations later revealed that the crime was committed by a former tenant who had previously lived in the victim's house. Following the latest attack in Bundi, the police are currently investigating whether the current gang is linked to these previous incidents. Senior officials have stated that all angles are being scrutinized, and efforts are currently underway to ensure the culprits are arrested as quickly as possible.
