Tension gripped parts of Maharashtra's Bhandara district after a routine flight encountered severe weather conditions, forcing the pilot to execute an unexpected emergency landing. The aircraft was carrying a total of four passengers on board as it traversed the regional airspace. Thick weather and plunging visibility made forward navigation increasingly difficult, compelling the crew to seek an immediate and safe spot to bring the machine down.
Circling the Lake Before Touchdown
According to officials, the private company helicopter had taken off from नागपुर and was heading towards रायपुर when the weather deteriorated sharply. The incident unfolded on Sunday around 11 in the morning near the Bhisari lake close to the Mohgaon-Nilaj road situated within the Mohadi tehsil. Before making the final descent, the aircraft was spotted circling above the lake for a brief duration to assess the ground conditions and locate a viable patch for landing.
Safety Confirmed and Return to Base
Low water levels in the nearby lake left large stretches of open ground exposed, providing the pilot with a suitable clearing to touch down safely. The occupants remained on the ground at the site for about an hour waiting for the atmosphere to clear up, after which they chose to fly back toward नागपुर rather than continuing the original trip. District Disaster Management Officer Abhishek Namdas confirmed that all four individuals aboard the chopper are completely safe and unhurt, noting that no casualties occurred. Meanwhile, Birsi Airport Director Girishchandra Verma stated that initial indications suggested the pilot intended to land at their facility before ultimately opting for a return to नागपुर.
