Landslide Slashes Mandi-Pathankot Highway in Himachal Pradesh, Heavy Traffic Halts

Continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has triggered a massive landslide on the Mandi-Pathankot National Highway, halting heavy vehicle movement and prompting authorities to divert traffic through alternative routes.

Incessant rainfall across the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh has once again triggered severe disruptions, with fresh disaster visuals emerging from the region. Persistent downpours have caused a major portion of the strategically vital Mandi-Pathankot National Highway to collapse under a massive landslide, bringing heavy vehicular movement on the key route to a complete standstill and forcing authorities to channel commercial traffic through alternative diversion roads.

Landslide Near Chamda Nala in Urla

The latest landslide occurred near the Chamda Nala area in Urla along the Mandi-Pathankot National Highway. As soon as the intense spell of rain paused briefly, the local administration deployed JCB excavators to cut through the hillside and initiate road-widening operations. However, the presence of an enormous rock blocked the path, preventing the widening efforts from succeeding immediately and leaving the major route blocked.

The local administration has urged citizens and commuters to exercise extreme caution while traveling along the highway amidst unpredictable weather conditions.
