Police and Income Tax officials in Bengaluru executed a major financial interception on Tuesday, recovering a massive sum of unaccounted cash from a vehicle traveling toward Tamil Nadu. Acting on specific intel, night patrolling teams intercepted the car along the busy transit corridor, leading to a substantial initial recovery. Subsequent search operations conducted at the residences linked to the occupants yielded further undisclosed currency. With the seized funds taken into custody, tax authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to trace the origin, intended recipient, and movement channels of this illicit money.
Interception at Hosur Road Toll Plaza
The interception unfolded along Hosur Road, shortly after the suspect vehicle crossed the toll plaza managed by Bangalore Elevated Tollway Limited. The operation was set in motion following a request from Jagdish, Deputy Director at Unit-22 of the Income Tax Department in Bengaluru City. Upon receiving instructions regarding the movement of illegal cash, the night patrolling unit of Electronic City Police Station swung into action. Officers intercepted the Hyundai Creta car at a traffic signal just beyond the toll gate and brought the vehicle along with its two occupants to the police station. Both the car and the individuals were handed over to the waiting Income Tax team. A detailed search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suitcases packed with currency notes, totaling Rs 9 crore in cash.
Tuticorin Jewelry Shop Link and Home Raid
Following the initial cash recovery, Income Tax authorities took both individuals into custody for intensive interrogation. Among the detained individuals was 42-year-old Sachin, who is associated with a commercial establishment named Sindhu Jewellers, located in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. Prompted by information extracted during preliminary questioning, Income Tax teams stationed in Tamil Nadu launched search operations at the residential premises of the suspects. The home searches yielded an additional Rs 1.3 crore in unaccounted cash. Combined with the money seized from the car, the total cash recovery from the joint operation stands at Rs 10.3 crore.
Kerala Registered Vehicle Packed with Rs 500 Denomination Notes
Vehicle verification revealed that the Creta car carrying the Rs 9 crore cash stash bore registration number KL 20 T 8629. Official registration records indicate that the vehicle is registered in the Neyyattinkara zone of Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala. Upon opening the suitcase stored inside the car, officials found that the overwhelming majority of the cash consisted of Rs 500 currency notes. Investigators are currently attempting to determine where such a large volume of cash was sourced within Bengaluru and who was designated to receive the shipment in Hosur. Authorities expect further arrests in the coming days as the broader network behind the illegal transaction comes to light.
Pattern of Unaccounted Cash Seizures in Bengaluru
This major cash seizure comes amid heightened vigilance by enforcement agencies against undisclosed wealth in the region. Just two days prior to this highway interception, another high-value raid was carried out in Bengaluru targeting a senior government functionary. In that action, officials searched the premises of a Special Land Acquisition Officer and recovered Rs 2.5 crore in cash alongside documents revealing total assets valued at Rs 18 crore. The back-to-back recoveries highlight an ongoing crackdown by tax authorities on illegal cash flow and unrecorded assets across the state.
