The CISF, responsible for securing airports, metro systems, nuclear plants, and critical government infrastructure, is set to receive a new high-tech headquarters. The nine-story facility, to be located at the CGO Complex on Lodhi Road in New Delhi, is designed to serve as a formidable command hub for the force. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar laid the foundation stone for the building on Sunday, marking the launch of infrastructure projects worth over 136 crore.
A New Command and Control Hub
The upcoming headquarters, being built at a cost of approximately 75.78 crore, will house the force's primary command center. This facility will serve as the nerve center for monitoring and planning security operations nationwide. Beyond the Director General's office, the building will feature advanced control rooms, modern conference halls, an auditorium, a library, and a gymnasium to support personnel.
Expanding Operational Mandate
In recent years, the responsibilities of the CISF have grown significantly. Beyond its established role in airport security, the force is now tasked with performing security audits for major ports. It has been recognized as a Recognized Security Organization under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code. Furthermore, the CISF has also been entrusted with the security of high-profile prisons in sensitive regions like Jammu and Kashmir.
Enhancing Training and Living Conditions
According to TrendKia, three major projects were inaugurated during the event. These include the 'Aditya' subordinate officer mess, built for 34.22 crore, and the 'Abhyas' training building, costing 20.53 crore, both at the National Industrial Security Academy in Hyderabad. Additionally, a 5.50 crore residential complex for the 4th Reserve Battalion in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district was dedicated to the nation to improve living standards for troops.
Empowerment and Personnel Welfare
In a major boost for gender representation, the Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the formation of the first all-female reserve battalion in Nuh, Haryana, which will comprise 1,024 female personnel. During the ceremony, families of CISF personnel who lost their lives on duty received one crore each under a personal accident insurance scheme. Additionally, customized motorized wheelchairs were distributed to children with special needs through a joint initiative between 'Sanrakshika' and SBI.
Addressing Emerging Security Threats
Bandi Sanjay Kumar emphasized that the welfare of CAPF personnel remains a top priority. He noted that the government has implemented policies like the CAPFIMS portal and a new disability policy, ensuring that personnel who become physically disabled on duty can continue their service with full promotions and benefits. To counter modern threats like drone attacks and cyber sabotage, the RTC Behror in Rajasthan is being developed into a Center of Excellence for drone and anti-drone technology. Specialized training for cyber security is also being conducted in collaboration with institutions like IIT Madras Pravartak and the National Forensic Sciences University.
