Even as dry atmospheric conditions settle over large parts of the country, regional weather systems continue to trigger intense atmospheric disruptions. A fresh alert points to severe thunderstorms, strong gale-force winds, and localized downpours affecting multiple states on Friday, October 9. While the northern mountains braces for turbulent weather, southern and eastern belts are also experiencing unsettled patterns before seasonal winds completely retreat.
Gusty Winds and Downpours in the Northern Hills
Mountainous zones are likely to see sharp weather shifts capable of dipping regional temperatures. On October 9, both Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh face forecasts of rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning strikes, and brisk squalls. Across Uttarakhand in particular, wind speeds could clock between 40 and 50 kmph, prompting advisories regarding localized transport and outdoor movement.
Heavy Downpours Forecast Across the Southern Peninsula
Deep south, convective cloud formations are bringing intense moisture over coastal and interior zones. Isolated pockets across South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to witness heavy spells of rain. Residents in these territories could face sudden waterlogging and travel slowdowns as intense showers lash several districts.
Plains to See Overcast Skies, Light Showers, and Gusty Squalls in Bihar
The northwestern and central plains will also see fluctuating atmospheric patterns over the coming week. From October 9 to October 14, partly to generally cloudy skies along with light showers are anticipated over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh. Simultaneously, scattered precipitation is projected between October 9 and October 11 across Bihar, Odisha, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Bihar faces particularly volatile conditions on October 9, where thunderstorms and lightning may be accompanied by high-velocity wind gusts reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kmph.
Northeastern Trends and Southwest Monsoon Withdrawal
Across the northeastern corridor, encompassing Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, scattered rain coupled with thunderstorms and lightning is likely between October 9 and October 14. Simultaneously, the broader atmospheric transition is accelerating. Favorable conditions are developing over the next 3 to 4 days for the further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of Eastern India, the northern peninsula, and several portions of the northeast. Consequently, seasonal precipitation across the northeastern states is expected to taper off entirely in the coming days.
