Just after 6:30 am on Tuesday, heavy rain caused a small section of the approach road leading to a bridge at Nanda Ki Chowki in Dehradun to cave in, leaving commuters stranded and disrupting normal movement along the route. As soon as the news reached Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, he ordered officials to reach the spot without delay and launch relief and repair work on a war footing.
How the Road Was Fixed in 12 Hours
Following the chief minister's directive, teams from the Public Works Department, the district administration and other concerned agencies swung into action right away. Working in close coordination with one another, they completed repairs to the damaged approach road within just 12 hours and reopened it for normal traffic. The quick turnaround came as a big relief to residents, and essential services in the area returned to normal soon after. During this period, an ambulance also managed to reach a patient to hospital without any obstruction, underlining that the repair genuinely restored a lifeline for the local population rather than serving as a token gesture.
No Room for Negligence, Says CM Dhami
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made it clear that no negligence would be tolerated in relief and restoration work during a disaster-like situation. He directed officials to put in place all the necessary technical and safety measures so that such incidents do not recur in the future, ensuring roads and bridges are not so easily damaged during rain or other calamities going forward.
Explanation Sought From Those Behind the Bridge's Construction
On the chief minister's instructions, the process of seeking an explanation from the officials and the contractor responsible for the bridge, its approach road and related construction work has also been set in motion. Investigators will now examine whether the standards prescribed at the time of construction were fully followed. If the inquiry finds negligence or a violation of norms at any level, strict action will be taken against those responsible as per the rules.

People living in the area also thanked Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, saying the speed with which the government brought the situation under control and reopened the road in just 12 hours brought them major relief. Residents described it as an example of a government that is sensitive, accountable and quick to act whenever needed.
