Multiple states across India are currently reeling under the impact of torrential rainfall. The ongoing monsoon activity has created flood-like conditions in several pockets, while landslides have disrupted connectivity in mountainous areas. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for numerous states today, although there are signs that the monsoon may weaken in certain regions. Authorities continue to maintain vigilance in Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh, while residents in hilly states have been urged to exercise extreme caution.

Continued Rainfall Forecast for Delhi-NCR

The residents of Delhi-NCR are unlikely to get relief from the rain today. A yellow alert has been issued for the region on July 11. Strong gusts accompanied by heavy showers are expected in some parts of the capital on Saturday. Meteorological reports indicate that wind speeds could reach between 75 and 80 kilometers per hour. High humidity levels are also expected due to the rainfall. The maximum temperature in Delhi is forecast to be around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to hover around 29 degrees Celsius.

Orange Alert Issued for Uttar Pradesh

The South-West monsoon has gained significant strength over Uttar Pradesh. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow has issued an orange alert for the state. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated at several locations through July 11 due to active monsoon conditions. In the last 24 hours, Mawana in Meerut recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 315 mm, followed by Jansath in Muzaffarnagar with 270.1 mm. Tragically, two deaths related to rain-induced incidents were reported in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

Monsoon Weakens in Rajasthan

In contrast, the meteorological forecast for Rajasthan offers a slight respite. Expectations are that the monsoon will start to weaken in the state from Friday, potentially ending the ongoing phase of intense rainfall. A subdued monsoon trend is likely to persist across the state for about a week starting July 10-11. Most parts of Rajasthan are expected to remain primarily dry, with only light, scattered rainfall in a few isolated areas.

Heavy Rains Impact West Bengal

Large portions of West Bengal experienced heavy rainfall on Friday. In Kolkata, the downpour caused significant inconvenience for office-goers and students as they navigated waterlogged streets.

Alerts for 7 Districts in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand has faced a challenging 24 hours. Heavy rains have triggered landslides, leading to the closure of 118 roads across the state. The weather department has warned of isolated heavy rainfall for Dehradun, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts on July 11, accompanied by strong winds. A 100-meter stretch of the Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi was damaged due to a landslide. Water levels in the Ganga, Yamuna, and their tributaries have risen considerably due to the sustained precipitation.

Landslide Risks in Jammu and Kashmir

The weather bureau has issued alerts for Jammu and Kashmir for July 11 and 12, advising residents to stay cautious of floods and landslides. Heavy rains in the Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district on Friday led to waterlogging in several areas. While some houses were damaged and dozens of people were stranded, local police and residents conducted a rescue operation to safely extract 25 individuals. Officials are monitoring the situation closely and have advised those living near rivers, streams, and flood-prone zones to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.

Situation in Himachal Pradesh

In Himachal Pradesh, a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain and potential landslides across six districts: Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur. Recent heavy rains have severely disrupted daily life, causing road closures, damage to bridges, and falling trees. In Shimla alone, 27 link roads were reported blocked. Incidents of rockfalls were observed on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway between Waknaghat and Kandaghat, as well as between Dharampur and Chakki Mor. The Sangla bridge in Kinnaur district is also under the threat of landslides.

Weekly Alert for Northeastern States

The IMD stated in its latest bulletin that widespread rainfall is likely across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between July 10 and 16. Conversely, the bulletin suggests that rainfall activity is expected to decrease over Central and South Peninsular India during the next 6-7 days.
