Security agencies have dismantled a cross-border intelligence-gathering network targeting India's maritime defense installations under a multi-state crackdown named Operation Firewall 2026. Coordinated raids across 10 states and Union territories revealed attempts by Pakistani intelligence operatives to extract sensitive strategic data, leading to the arrest of two individuals, including a Visakhapatnam naval base employee and a driver.
Eastern Naval Command Emerges as Prime Target
The investigation uncovered that the espionage apparatus was specifically focused on gathering classified information connected to the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam. The operation, led by counter-intelligence authorities and Andhra Pradesh police, established that 18 individuals are currently under scrutiny. Among the suspects, 13 are Indian Navy sailors and personnel who were allegedly targeted through honeytrap attempts and social media manipulation to extract tactical assets data.
Multi-State Search Operations and Digital Forensics
To trace the full extent of the compromise, counter-intelligence teams executed simultaneous searches across 10 states. Investigators are analyzing seized electronic gadgets, mobile handsets, and digital records to map out the entire operational footprint. The financial aspects of the racket, including potential payments routed through online transfers or clandestine channels to sustain the espionage ring, remain central to the investigation.
Tightened Protocols Across Defense Facilities
Custodial interrogation of the two arrested individuals is actively underway to determine the exact volume of data transmitted to foreign handlers. Simultaneously, internal reviews have commenced for all 13 naval personnel named in the inquiry to verify their specific interactions and communications. Defense establishments have heightened oversight on communication networks and reaffirmed strict operational security protocols across all strategic coastal installations.
