Lack of financial resources and limited awareness have long prevented youth from underprivileged backgrounds from securing stable livelihoods. To bridge this gap and uplift the most vulnerable sections of society, a targeted skill development initiative has been launched in the Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh under the Zero Poverty Campaign. Spearheaded by the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), the program aims to equip unemployed youth with market-relevant technical skills, paving the way for both employment and self-employment opportunities. The initiative goes beyond conventional training by focusing directly on bringing long-term economic stability to poor households.
Targeting 12,000 Youth Under the Zero Poverty Drive
The ambitious campaign has set a target to connect 12,000 youth from impoverished families across Amethi district with practical skill training. To execute this mission effectively, officials and staff from the Government ITI have launched an extensive outreach program. Utilizing telephonic communication, the team has already reached out to approximately 8,000 families to assess their socio-economic status and identify eligible young candidates seeking employment avenues.
Out of the families surveyed so far, 1,792 unemployed individuals have been identified who expressed a keen interest in acquiring technical skills to start their careers or launch small business ventures. The outreach team is continuing its survey efforts to contact the remaining targeted households across the district, ensuring no eligible family is left behind.
Tailored Technical Trades and Career Guidance
The identified candidates will be assigned to various vocational trades based on their educational background, personal aptitude, and career aspirations. The training catalog includes high-demand job roles such as electrician, fitter, welder, computer operations, tailoring, and motor mechanic, alongside other industry-relevant technical courses. This structured curriculum ensures that trainees gain practical expertise aligned with local market needs.
Upon completing their training, candidates will receive comprehensive career support to facilitate smooth integration into the workforce. Beyond connecting youth with potential employers, the initiative provides dedicated guidance for those who wish to establish independent enterprises. By enabling self-employment, the program aims to boost family incomes and foster financial independence among local youth.
Empowering the Most Vulnerable Households
Highlighting the significance of the project, Sandeep Kumar from the Skill Development Mission noted that extremely poor families frequently miss out on government assistance due to information barriers. The Zero Poverty Campaign has been specifically structured to identify and include these historically overlooked households, bringing them into the fold of economic progress.
Kumar emphasized that the primary goal of this initiative extends far beyond granting vocational certificates. The objective is to achieve genuine economic empowerment by enabling youth to become financially self-reliant. By turning unskilled individuals into productive workers, the program aims to pull entire families out of poverty and integrate them into the socio-economic mainstream.
