According to the latest weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to persist in several regions on Thursday. Weather experts have also warned of thunderstorms and potential lightning strikes in scattered locations, advising residents to take necessary precautions during severe weather events.
Heavy Rain Warning for Central and Eastern India
According to weather department details, heavy rainfall is predicted between August 27 and August 30 across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sikkim, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Odisha, in particular, faces a heightened risk of thunderstorms and lightning strikes at isolated places on August 29 and August 30.
Wind speeds across affected land and coastal zones during this period are anticipated to range between 40 km/h and 50 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h. In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, wind speeds could escalate up to 70 km/h. Additionally, the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh is expected to witness spells of intense downpours.
Weather Outlook for Western and Southern Regions
For western India, meteorologists forecast widespread rain from August 27 through September 1 across Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Konkan, Goa, and Kutch. These areas may experience varying intensities of precipitation, ranging from moderate showers to heavy spells in localized areas.
In southern India, scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected over North Interior Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana. Regions including Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema are on alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds blowing at speeds of 50 km/h to 60 km/h.
Northeastern Weather and Delhi NCR Update
Precipitation in the northeastern region will continue unabated from August 27 to September 1. States including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are projected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and intermittent rainfall, following the wet spell already witnessed on Wednesday.
In the national capital, Delhi, Thursday is expected to feature generally cloudy skies with light rain or local showers occurring between morning and afternoon hours. Temperatures in Delhi are likely to range from a maximum of 33°C to 35°C to a minimum of 25°C to 27°C. This weather transition in Delhi and nearby areas is primarily driven by a low-pressure atmospheric system over northeast Madhya Pradesh moving toward southern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas.
