Devotees across the country are celebrating Shri Krishna Janmashtami with immense devotion and grand preparations. Temples have been elaborately decorated, and special arrangements are in place to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna from Mathura and Vrindavan to various other parts of the nation. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived in Mathura on Friday as part of these celebrations. He offered prayers at the sacred Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple and extended festive greetings to the people of the state. During his roughly 30-minute stay within the temple complex, he also showered flower petals on the gathered devotees. However, his visit extended far beyond conventional worship, touching upon significant developmental and regional issues.
The Stand on Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Eidgah
The Chief Minister has consistently maintained a firm public stance regarding Mathura and the Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute. During a media interview on March 26, 2025, when questioned about the Krishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Eidgah controversy, he publicly questioned why the issue of Mathura should not be raised and whether it was not the rightful birthplace of Lord Krishna. He further remarked that the administration was strictly abiding by judicial orders, otherwise much more would have taken place at the site by now. This particular statement continues to draw widespread attention across social media platforms and political discussions.
Commitment to Comprehensive Braj Development
Beyond offering prayers, the Chief Minister prominently raised the issues of religious heritage and regional development for the Braj area. He announced that Mathura, Vrindavan, Nandgaon, Barsana, Govardhan, and the entire Braj region will be developed in alignment with public sentiments and expectations. Through the platform of Janmashtami, he effectively combined the agenda of spiritual reverence with infrastructural growth, assuring that the entire sacred geography will witness significant modernization and visitor-friendly amenities.
Attacking Opposition and Emphasizing Sanatan Faith
Addressing the gathering of worshippers, the Chief Minister launched a sharp critique of the opposition by referencing historical figures like Babur and Aurangzeb. He stated that individuals who harbor allegiance to Babur and Aurangzeb cannot possibly respect the foundational faith and heritage of the nation. Highlighting his government's values, he asserted that their allegiance lies with Lord Krishna, Lord Rama, Kashi Vishwanath, and Goddess Vindhyavasini. He cautioned that certain elements might attempt to poison societal harmony and undermine the interests of youth, women, farmers, and entrepreneurs, assuring that the administration would firmly thwart such designs.
Transforming Mathura Like Ayodhya and Varanasi
Drawing parallels with ongoing infrastructural transformations, the Chief Minister declared that Mathura and Vrindavan will experience a grand revitalization similar to Ayodhya and Kashi. Reflecting on the history of foreign invasions targeting local temples, he emphasized that collective faith could never be eradicated. His address strongly underscored the integration of Braj's distinct religious identity with large-scale urban development to preserve its historical legacy while improving public infrastructure.
