What Amit Shah wrote
In his post, Amit Shah wrote:
The Shri Amarnath Yatra is a sacred symbol of unshakeable devotion, steady patience, restraint and a never give up spirit rooted in Sanatan culture. This holy yatra begins today. Best wishes to all devotees heading for the darshan and puja of Baba Barfani.
The post went on to briefly mention arrangements being made by the Modi government for the entire yatra. In doing so, Amit Shah both extended good wishes to devotees and pointed to the government's role in organising the pilgrimage.
Why the yatra holds special significance
The Shri Amarnath Yatra is a major annual religious pilgrimage. Every year, lakhs of devotees from across the country trek through difficult, high altitude Himalayan terrain to reach the holy cave. The cave is located in the Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir, and pilgrims traditionally reach it via either the Pahalgam or the Baltal route. Inside, devotees offer prayers to a naturally formed ice Shivling, which is popularly referred to as Baba Barfani. The journey is completed through rugged mountain paths, high altitudes and shifting weather conditions, which is why it is regarded not just as a religious journey but also as a test of patience, restraint and unwavering faith. Every year during the yatra, security forces, health authorities and local administration put in place special arrangements for security, medical facilities and route management so that devotees can complete the darshan and puja without major difficulty. Amit Shah's post echoed this same sentiment, describing the yatra as a symbol of faith along with grit and courage.
Public reaction
Reactions to Amit Shah's post on social media were mixed. A large number of users responded with devotional messages invoking Shiva and offered wishes for the yatra, calling it a celebration of faith and courage. At the same time, some users and devotees raised questions and complaints about difficulties in getting yatra permits, administrative arrangements and crowd management. A few users also voiced frustration over separate local administrative issues. This showed that alongside official messages of goodwill, ordinary devotees are also openly using social media to flag practical problems linked to the pilgrimage. Overall, the post drew both religious support and pointed questions about how the yatra is being managed.
