Campaigning across Uttar Pradesh has gathered rapid momentum ahead of the upcoming legislative council elections for the teacher and graduate constituencies. Political outfits are actively mobilizing grassroots machinery and connecting with electorates as polling day nears. A major convention for teachers and graduates was held in Lucknow to rally support for Bharatiya Janata Party candidates, setting off a sharp confrontation with the opposition.
Yogi Adityanath Attacks the Opposition
Addressing the gathering in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a scathing attack against the Samajwadi Party. He pointed out that prior to 2017, the state was gripped by disorder, riots, and frequent curfews, which left Uttar Pradesh economically and socially crippled. Emphasizing the transformation in law and order, he urged educated voters to use paper ballots this time to reject the politics of the Samajwadi Party and hold them accountable for past governance failures.
Election Landscape and Administrative Preparation
Voting for the legislative council seats is scheduled to take place on October 23. Following the withdrawal of nominations by 7 contenders, a total of 152 candidates remain in the contest, including 16 nominees from the teacher segment and 23 from the graduate constituency. Administrative readiness is being assessed across regions; in Lakhimpur Kheri alone, 85 polling booths have been set up, while senior officials in areas like Kunda in Pratapgarh have reviewed ground logistics. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party has submitted memorandums to district magistrates demanding strict security arrangements from the start of voting through the counting phase.
Voter Outreaches and Polling Arrangements
With an electorate of 1.71 lakh registered voters in the Lucknow graduate division, political campaigns have mobilized lawmakers, regional leaders, and booth-level teams to ensure high participation. To facilitate voting, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has ordered a public holiday on October 23 for eligible employees, allowing them to cast their ballots without workplace disruption.
