A controversy has broken out in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district over Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. Akhilesh Yadav (@yadavakhilesh) posted on X alleging that certain dominant-group elements in the district disrupted Janmashtami festivities, preventing the puja rituals from being carried out.
What the allegation is about
Sultanpur has been in a festive mood over Janmashtami in recent days, with pandals set up in markets across more than half a dozen rural areas of the district. Amid these celebrations, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that a group of dominant elements deliberately created obstructions during the puja, disrupting the event. He described it as a direct attack on the faith of a community, saying such incidents send the wrong message to society.

In his post, Akhilesh Yadav wrote that the incident was not just an attack on faith but also a sin and a crime. He stated
This is not just an attack on a community's faith, it is a sin as well as a crime.
He further demanded a high-level investigation into the entire matter and strict legal action against those found responsible. Along with the post, he also shared a link, which is said to carry additional information related to the incident.
The Janmashtami atmosphere in the district
Notably, preparations for Janmashtami had been underway in Sultanpur for several days. Policemen and devotees at various police station areas came together to put up elaborate tableaux, while markets across the district also wore a festive look. It is against this backdrop of celebration and devotion that the allegation of disrupted puja has stirred tensions locally, with the issue quickly spreading on social media.

Akhilesh Yadav's post drew a mixed response on social media. One section of users backed his demand, saying a fair investigation into the matter was necessary, while another section accused him of stoking caste and communal debate around a festival and turning it into a political issue. Some questioned whether the matter was as significant as being portrayed, while several others repeated the call for the administration to act quickly and impartially.
