A New Proposal Posted on Truth Social
Donald Trump published a poll on his Truth Social account, @realDonaldTrump, floating the idea of renaming ICE, formally known as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to NICE, which would stand for National Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Trump wrote that this concept had been on his mind for quite some time.
The Media Criticism Driving the Idea
Trump argued that ICE has been abused by the 'Fake News Media at levels never seen before.' He praised the agency's agents as 'Great Patriots' who work hard and do 'a fantastic job' under very hostile conditions, and he blamed much of that hostility on 'the Dumocrats and the Fake News.'
How NICE Would Trip Up Reporters
The core of Trump's argument is that the name change would throw what he called 'Crooked, Dishonest, and Unpatriotic Reporters and Journalists' off balance. He wrote that reporters would be forced into sentences like 'We went to a NICE Facility today' or 'NICE Agents have deported a Violent Drug Dealer,' and that they 'won't be able to handle it' and 'will go totally crazy.'
Just One Letter Added
Trump was clear that the change itself is minimal: only the letter 'N' for 'National' is added to the front of the existing name. He called NICE 'a much more prestigious name' and stated that 'everyone loves it.'
Tom Homan Passes Along Agent Sentiment
Despite the widespread enthusiasm Trump described, he acknowledged a notable caveat: Tom Homan, whom Trump called 'legendary,' informed him that ICE agents themselves 'do not love it as much as the other population.' Trump included this detail openly in his post rather than glossing over it.
Asking Followers to Weigh In
Trump closed the post with a direct question to his followers: 'Who thinks that we should add an N to change the name of ICE to NICE?' He signed off as 'President DJT.'
