A harrowing incident of violence within a family has come to light from the Kalahandi district of Odisha, where addiction led to the tragic death of a young man. The incident took place in Nuaguda village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Kalampur police station. An altercation over money for alcohol culminated in a father launching a deadly attack on his 20-year-old son, striking him with a wooden block and inflicting fatal head injuries.
Dispute Over Liquor Funds Triggers Fatal Assault
According to available details, the accused, identified as Mansingh Gahir, was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. He demanded money from his 20-year-old son, Alok Ranjan Gahir, to purchase more alcohol. When Alok refused to hand over money for his father's drinking habit, a heated verbal argument broke out between the two. The confrontation escalated rapidly, leading Mansingh to lose his temper. In a fit of rage, he picked up a heavy piece of wood lying nearby and struck Alok forcefully on the head.
Declared Dead Upon Arrival at Health Centre
The impact of the blow caused severe cranial injuries, and Alok collapsed to the ground bleeding heavily. Alerted by the commotion, other family members and neighbours rushed to the spot to render assistance. They immediately arranged transport and rushed the critically injured Alok to the nearby Kalampur Community Health Centre for emergency treatment. However, upon arrival, the attending medical officers examined the youth and declared him brought dead.
Police Investigation and Arrest of the Accused
Following the declaration of death, officials at the Kalampur Community Health Centre promptly notified the local Kalampur police station. A police contingent arrived at the medical facility shortly thereafter to take charge of the situation. Law enforcement personnel secured the victim's body and dispatched it for a formal post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Simultaneously, police conducted an operation in Nuaguda village, locating and apprehending the accused father, Mansingh Gahir. He was taken into custody and officially arrested under relevant legal provisions. Investigators are currently interrogating Mansingh to reconstruct the sequence of events leading from the monetary argument to the assault. The tragic loss of life has left the residents of Nuaguda village and surrounding parts of Kalampur in deep grief and shock.
