Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has made a quirky remark regarding his security, stating that he has not yet received a bulletproof jacket, and if he does get one, he will pass it on to a journalist. Speaking informally to reporters, his comments made it clear that despite the state government's arrangements to provide him with protective gear, he has no intention of wearing it.
The Uttar Pradesh administration is currently preparing to distribute bulletproof jackets to 44 key political figures, including Akhilesh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati. The security headquarters has procured these protective vests at an estimated cost of around 10 lakh rupees. Additionally, 11 ministers in the Yogi Adityanath government are also slated to receive the security gear.
Comments on Japanese Students and Political Slangs
Addressing a recent visit by 13 Japanese children to Uttar Pradesh who took selfies with the Chief Minister, Akhilesh quipped that the visiting kids must not have done any prior research, otherwise they would have avoided taking those photos, though they will likely get plenty of similar opportunities in the future. He also took a jibe at the ruling party by coining a sarcastic expanded form of the party's name, claiming it stands for telling people to run away to Pakistan.
Recounting an incident from Meerut where a local official allegedly scolded citizens visiting an office, Akhilesh argued that the visitors belonged to the PDA community, which prompted the official to question how they dared enter the premises. He further alleged that instances of police high-handedness and brutality are currently visible across the board.
Remarks on Jayant Chaudhary and Alliance Dynamics
Directing his criticism toward Jayant Chaudhary, Akhilesh remarked that the main difficulty is that speaking the truth tends to offend people. He suggested that the ruling party should allocate a greater share of seats to its regional allies and accord them proper respect by multiplying their seat share fourfold, warning that failing to do so would amount to disrespecting Chaudhary Charan Singh. He added that his camp would pass a formal censure motion if adequate respect is withheld from the allies. Reaffirming his stance on political partnerships, he maintained that his existing coalition remains firmly intact.
Defending the Merits of Family Politics
Weighing in on the ongoing debate surrounding dynastic politics, Akhilesh urged observers to consider the inherent advantages that such family structures can provide. Pointing to recent parliamentary proceedings where attempts to poach lawmakers were discussed, he noted that while the ruling party intended to alter the constitution prior to the elections, the national electorate repeatedly used their franchise to thwart those ambitions. He emphasized that the electorate of Uttar Pradesh and socialist workers played the most decisive role in this outcome.
Raising the question of why several political parties splintered while the Samajwadi Party remained completely united, he pointed out that having five MPs from a single family, alongside several minority lawmakers and dedicated loyalists, naturally created a cohesive core that could not be easily fractured, proving that dynastic ties can sometimes offer structural benefits. However, when specifically asked whether any direct attempts were made to break his party, he denied that any such efforts had taken place.
