Tamil Nadu's assembly elections this year produced a significant political realignment. Actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay led his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, commonly known as TVK, to a strong electoral showing. TVK subsequently allied with several other parties to form a coalition government in the state, bringing DMK's run in power to an end. The process of government formation involved lengthy discussions and negotiations between TVK and its coalition partners before Joseph Vijay was eventually sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Opposition Fires Back Quickly
Shortly after the new TVK coalition government was sworn into office, DMK chief MK Stalin came forward with a significant claim, asserting that Joseph Vijay's government would not be able to hold on to power for any extended length of time.
Five-Year Term Put in Doubt
MK Stalin, who is DMK's party chief and a former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, stated plainly that Chief Minister Joseph Vijay's TVK coalition government will not succeed in completing its full five-year term.
TVK's Allies Were Once DMK Partners
Stalin also highlighted that the parties currently lending their support to the TVK government were, right up until the recent assembly elections, members of the DMK-led coalition. The very political partners that now prop up Joseph Vijay's government in Tamil Nadu had, until that point, been aligned with the DMK-led alliance.
